Toozeday Nooze

Toozeday Nooze
EDITION 529 - 08/13/2024

The library hosts It's monthly bourse this Saturday.
I still don't know what our program is for August. We do have some fascinating programs coming in September and October. The one in September will be on the Japanese Internment Camps of World War Two. This will be presented by Bob Akaki. The October presentation will be on U.S. Revenues by Bob Hohertz. We will have more information as we get closer to the time of each.
My cover this week is a Censored Cover sent from New York City to Abong Mbang, Cameroun during World War Two. The stamps are Numbers C27 & C31. I find stamp # C31 interesting on cover for a few reasons. Most of the covers that I have seen with #C31 are philatelic covers, primarily First Flights or Around the World trips. The sixty-cent rate went into effect on December 2, 1941.The first day of issue was October 29, 1941. Commercial mail with #C31 during World War Two is scarce. The international rate to Cameroun dropped to twenty-five cents on November 1, 1946.
This cover is a little tattered and it brings up an interesting point. I was asked at the library by someone that knew one of my other lifelong hobbies was photography if I ever altered my scans. It would be simple to do. Back in the days when I shot film, many photos were improved in the darkroom. These days in the age of digital a lot can be done to improve images. I will admit that most of my wildlife photos have at least a little bit of enhancement before I show them. I never do that with stamps or covers. What you see is exactly as it is seen by the scanner or camera. The only thing I do is change the file size in order for the scan to be accepted by our software. Most of you can click on the picture to enlarge it to see better detail. I am told this does not work for everyone. If you are viewing on a computer made in the last 10 years this option should work. Options may be more limited when viewing on your phone.
