| Metropex is the third weekend of the month on the 18th & 19th. Please note that this is a Friday and Saturday show. This is always a fun show and the only two day show in the region. |
| There will not be a Second Sunday show in October. They will be back in November. |
| My cover this week is a registered cover that was sent from Sanborn, Minnesota, Redwood County to Lowell, Mass on November 11, 1885. The county name is identified in the cancel. This type of cancel is not common. There are a few reasons for identifying the county. In a time when smaller post offices had to provide their own hand canceling devices some postmasters chose to go this route. They may have also included their name with or without the county name in the postmark. In some states there was confusion with another city with the same or similar name. I find most county cancels from the 1880's but there are examples much earlier and even some up to the present day on counter canceled items. |
