| At first glance my cover this week has a pair of Scott #300. That is a very common stamp especially on early postcards. The pair is actually #314, the imperforated variety of the stamp. This is a cover that I no longer own. I sold it for over double the Scott value a few years back. The Scott's catalog is a great reference, but it does not always reflect the market or true scarcity of an item. I put this on Ebay and started the listing at the Scott catalog value at the time of $32.50. I received over 30 bids, and it sold for over $75.00. My advice is that if you have something that you have never seen on cover before, start it out high. If that does not work, you can always relist it. I of course have looked for another since, but I have not found an affordable one. |
