| I'm not sure if I have shown this postcard before. After posting 550 covers over 10 years there is bound to be some accidental repeats, (I have repeated a few by request). The postcard has a 1 cent prexie. The writer noted the date as June 23, 1949. It has a Special Delivery handstamp. Somewhere along the way it was marked "This is the mail for which you sent postage". It was postmarked from the sending address as July 5, 1949. It's a bit of a mystery, but my guess is that it was sent without postage or the stamps fell off. The post office then held it until the postage was paid which resulted in a 12-day delay. It did not receive Special Delivery service which would have required 11 cents postage. I would love to hear if anyone has a better theory on this. |
