Toozeday Nooze
EDITION 507 - 03/12/2024

This monthly bourse is this Saturday at the library.
I hope everyone is as excited as I am about the upcoming auction next Thursdayat the Maplewood Stamp Club to benefit our library. Everyone is welcome to come to this month's meeting, even if you are not a club member. You may donate stamp items to be auctioned and all are encouraged to bid. The proceeds will go to the NORPS Philatelic Library. For those that have not attended a Maplewood meeting, it is a great opportunity to check out the club. They have an auction every month along with fascinating speakers and presentations. I believe it is the best attended local club and draws 30 to 50 people to each meeting. They normally meet on the fourth Thursday of each month. This month they are actually meeting on the 21st which is the third Thursday as the church has an event planned on the fourth Thursday.
The second monthly meeting for the Twin City Philatelic Society will be on the 28th this month in order to allow the members to attend the auction benefitting the library at the Maplewood Stamp Club meeting on the 21st.
The Minnesota Postal History Society is resuming meetings this Friday at 2:00. This is a special day and time. This is the annual meeting with election/re-election of officers for the coming year.
This month's library presentation will be on Fakes and Forgeries by Bruce Johnson on the 23rd.
There has been talk about having more workshops at the library in addition to the fascinating presentations we have been enjoying. These would not have to be on Saturday's but could be on a weekday during the daytime. With the passing of Al, the Stamp Academy is not what it was. I have been covering Wednesday's along with Jerry since Al's passing. One option is to try a couple workshops on a couple Wednesday's. I think between Jerry and I we could come up with a few topics. If there is a positive response, we could either designate a day each month or the day could float based upon presenter's schedules. We would like everyone's input into this before we come up with a plan. Please let me know what you think of this. It was discussed at this month's board meeting. I am at pjflaherty58@gmail.com. So far, I have received one email reply to this idea, and it was a positive reply. I have had several replies in person, and all have been in favor of this after the renovations are complete in the basement.
My cover this week was sent from the University of North Carolina to the British Museum in London. What I found interesting was the re use of the envelope. The rate to London was fifteen cents airmail. A "Economy Label Re-Use of Envelope" was applied to cover the stamps from the U.S. and the original recipient's address. They then replied to the original sender and affixed fifteen pence to again get airmail service back. I have seen several flipped covers during World Wars One and Two when many common items were in short supply. For all I know this may have been a common practice in 1962, but I don't remember seeing another one.

If you have anything that you want shared let me know at pjflaherty58@gmail.com
Library Corner:
Hi Everyone,
It is Tim here again. I'm still recovering from back surgery so am unable to get to the Library, but Pat said it would be fine to post a Library Corner as I can so here is one for this week.
Some of you may not be aware that for quite a while now Paul, Rudi and Mark have been working on extensive renovations in the basement of the Library. When I say extensive I mean floors, walls, ceiling, duct-work, everything. They have made huge progress. Paul sent me some pictures recently because he knew I was unable to get to the Library to see for myself (thank you Paul), so I thought I'd share one of them with you.
As you can see they are getting very close to being able to move a lot of material down here thereby making a lot more room upstairs. Well done guys. I for one really appreciate the huge amount of work that you all have put in.
Have a good week everyone.
Regards ... Tim
