Toozeday Nooze

Toozeday Nooze
EDITION 526 - 07/23/2024

The library will be open this Saturday without a scheduled event.
I hope everyone got a chance to visit Minnesota Stamp EXPO.
My cover this week was sent from Duryea, PA to Prague in what is now the Czech Republic on October 10, 1887. The postmark identifies Luzerne County. The post office in Duryea opened four years prior and is still in operation today. The stamp is a very late usage of #65. In 1887 Prague was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. At EXPO I was part of a discussion on how one cover can appeal to different collectors for very different reasons. I believe this is a prime example. If you collect early Foreign Destinations, Late Usages, County Cancels, etc. this cover could be of interest to you.

Library Corner:
As most of you will know, this weekend we had Expo 2024 at the Crystal Community Center, and what a great show it was. I would like to take a minute to thank the organizers who did a great job putting it on.
On Saturday at Expo, we had the Annual General Meeting of the Northern Philatelic Library. We had a strong attendance including several people who don't usually come to our Board Meetings. It was good to see everyone there.
Apart from our normal business, we took care of a couple of very important issues. The first being the voting for the Officers for the 2024-2025 year. The role of Officers officially voted in is:
    • President - Tim Auld
    • Vice President - Paul Hempel
    • Secretary - Dr Gene Young
    • Assistant Secretary - Kathy Johnson
    • Treasurer - Bruce Johnson
    • Assistant Treasurer - Paul Hempel
    • Membership Secretary - Mario Nardi
    • Webmaster - Tim Auld
    • The second issue that we took care of in the meeting was the selection of a new logo that will represent the Northern Philatelic Library. Wyley Johnson, a very talented graphics designer who has been working with the Board on designing a new logo, joined us at the meeting and presented his findings. He presented two ideas that provided different approaches, one more formal and one more relaxed and informal. Both were excellent idea and either would have worked very well for the library. An overwhelming majority of the attendees felt that the more informal relaxed approach best represented the feel and approach that we have at the library and so when put to a vote the informal approach won. The logo can be use in a number of different ways: in letterheads, business cards, on the website, on the sign outside the library, on coffee mugs and t-shirts. We are very pleased to announce that our new logo will be based on the following:
Thank you all who attended the meeting and made it a success. Thank you especially to Wyley Johnson for all the work and talent that he put into the research and design of the new logo. We have a lot happening at the library at the moment. As well as a place to find a book on your collecting interest, a place to fill those elusive spots in your collection, often with quite inexpensive but hard to find stamps, we offer a place to get together with your friends and enjoy your hobby together along with a cup of coffee and often a donut or two. 🙂
I'll give you updates on happenings at the library and the significant progress that is being made in several areas in future Toozeday Nooze issues.
Looking forward to seeing soon at the library.
      Best regards,
      Tim Auld
      President
