| I don't know what our program is for August. We do have some fascinating programs coming in September and October. The one in September will be on the Japanese Internment Camps of World War Two. This will be presented by Bob Akakai. The October presentation will be on U.S. Revenues by Bob Hohertz. We will have more information as we get closer to the time of each. |
| My cover this week is from Fowlds, Minnesota and it was sent to Grand Forks, Dakota Territory. It is the earliest known cancel from Fowlds and was sent a few months after the post office opened. The post office in Fowlds existed from 1887 to 1892 in Pope County. Fowlds was a town on the rail line that ran between Minneapolis and Grand Forks. Starting in 1892 the mail was handled by Sedan, Minnesota. I could not find out if this was a name change or just a consolidation of post offices. The post office in Sedan stayed in operation until 1994. Mail from Sedan is now handled by the Glenwood post office. In the last census the city of Sedan had a population of 43. |
