Toozeday Nooze

Toozeday Nooze
EDITION 506 - 03/05/2024

This Saturday is a workday at the library. The red box program has been a success. So much so that we need help in refilling the red boxes. We have a bunch of identified stamps that we need volunteers to put stamps into 102 cards and into the red boxes. We could also use help in identifying stamps to go into the red boxes. We do not currently have a tenant for the office space that we rent out. The donations we get from the red boxes is literally keeping the lights on. Any level of experience will help as we have many stamps already identified. They need to get into the boxes in proper order. Please come and help if you are able on Saturday at 11:00 AM.
The Maplewood Stamp club is having a special auction night this month to benefit our library. Everyone is welcome to come to this month's meeting, even if you are not a club member. You may donate stamp items to be auctioned and all are encouraged to bid. 100% of the proceeds will go to the NORPS Philatelic Library. For those that have not attended a Maplewood meeting, it is a great opportunity to check out the club. They have an auction every month along with fascinating speakers and presentations. I believe it is the best attended local club and draws 30 to 50 people to each meeting. They normally meet on the fourth Thursday of each month. This month they are actually meeting on the 21st which is the third Thursday as the church has an event planned on the fourth Thursday.
The second monthly meeting for the Twin City Philatelic Society will be on the 28th this month in order to allow the members to attend the auction benefitting the library at the Maplewood Stamp Club meeting on the 21st..
This month's library presentation will be on Fakes and Forgeries by Bruce Johnson on the 23rd.
There has been talk about having more workshops at the library in addition to the fascinating presentations we have been enjoying. These would not have to be on Saturday's but could be on a weekday during the daytime. With the passing of Al, the Stamp Academy is not what it was. I have been covering Wednesday's along with Jerry since Al's passing. One option is to try a couple workshops on a couple Wednesday's. I think between Jerry and I we could come up with a few topics. If there is a positive response, we could either designate a day each month or the day could float based upon presenter's schedules. We would like everyone's input into this before we come up with a plan. Please let me know what you think of this, and it will be discussed at the next board meeting. I am at pjflaherty58@gmail.com. So far, I have received one reply to this idea. At least it was a positive reply.
The Minnesota Postal History Society is scheduled to resume meetings this month. What I have so far is conflicting information as the library is already booked on the Fourth Tuesday. This will be updated as soon as a new date is chosen.
What do you do when you run out of stamps and have something to mail? These two covers show that some people draw their own stamps, and it appears that they made it through the mail. It seems like these days if the stamp is tagged, the mail will get through regardless of the rate. What I find unusual about the cover cancelled in Franklinville is that it was hand cancelled and it has a return address. That makes me question if it actually went through the mail or was simply a handback.
I had a member send a link to a fun cover listed on Ebay. We are not allowed to share images that do not belong to us without permission from the owner of the product. Ebay also does not allow us to copy scanned images that their members have posted for auction. We are allowed to ask the seller for permission to show their item as long as they send us a separate scan. Our server limits images sizes. If you do have something to share, please contact me first and I will be happy to help. We have received scans that were too large that we were not able to share.
If you have anything that you want shared let me know at pjflaherty58@gmail.com
