| The library is closed Wednesday through Saturday this week for the Christmas Holiday, although I never heard back from anyone about Friday or Saturday. I made calls, but they went unanswered so I am playing it safe in stating that we will not be open. |

This is the 600th edition of the Toozeday Nooze. When I volunteered to do the Nooze on a temporary basis I had no idea I would still be doing this 11-1/2 years later. I had doubts that the library would make it this long, but here we are still growing. Please continue to support the library in whatever way you can. That can be financially, volunteering, promoting, donations, etc. and of course please continue to utilize our resources. In addition to the many out of print and hard to find books that will help you with your research, we have our stamp lab and most importantly we have knowledgeable volunteers with many areas of expertise, a list of which is on our website. We have a bourse the third Saturday of every month where you can buy/sell/trade with other collectors doing the same. This is free of charge. Some sellers voluntarily donate 5 to 10 percent of what they sell at the bourse to the library, but this is not required. Our red box program continues to grow where you can fill those holes in your album for much less that it would cost you at a show. We have fascinating programs and workshops planned for 2026. These are usually the fourth Saturday of the month. Many of our members' favorite activity at the library is visiting with friends in our hobby in a relaxed atmosphere. There is always coffee and water available and we never turn down cookies or doughnuts. Please plan to visit the library in 2026. |

Tis the season to let me know if your club has a different winter schedule. I already know that the Minnesota Postal History Society does not meet in January and February. |
During the winter months when the weather gets bad many of the clubs and even the library will close or change their meeting dates and times. Check with your club to find out how they handle these closures. |

The library will be closed on December 24, 25,31 and January 1st. I have not heard about additional days off around the holidays. |

My cover this week was cancelled on Christmas Day 1844. It received free franking service and it was sent by the postmaster from Portland, Maine, Mr. Sylvanus R. Lyman to Mr. Hudson Heath in Ellsworth, Maine. Mr. Lyman was the postmaster for the Portland Post Office from May 4, 1841, through April 1, 1845. The letter enclosed has to do with Eighty dollars and some confusion over compensation having something to do with a pension. It's a confusing letter and I can't make out all the words, so I may not have that correct. I have also attached the letter. If you can make more sense of this, please let me know and I will update in a future post. |

To sign up for the Toozeday Nooze go to our website at NORPS.org, there you will find a link for the Toozeday Nooze and on the event page where you can sign up to receive the Nooze every week and keep up on events and programs at the library as well as happenings with the local stamp clubs and shows. I have been told this does not work with some phones but should be accessible from your computer. You do not need to be a member of the library to receive this, but I encourage you to do so. We are run and organized 100% by volunteers and your donations keep the doors open and the lights on. |
