Toozeday Nooze

Toozeday Nooze
EDITION 605 - 01/27/2026

We had a great program on Zeppelin Covers by Bruce Johnson at the library on Saturday. It was well attended and I learned a lot. We were shown many fascinating covers, and we were able to learn about the Zeppelin's history and their flights. This month we have five Saturdays and nothing is planned for this coming Saturday.
The Saint Paul Winter Carnival is upon us. I have collected covers and memorabilia for the event for many years. The first cover below is from a dry goods company in Saint Paul that has an ad on it for the upcoming second Winter Carnival. It is dated November 4, 1886. There is a letter with it that has nothing to do with the carnival, it is for a customer's order of yarn. The second cover is from the Ryan Hotel, which played a part in many of the early winter carnivals. It is from the same time period, but I can't make out the date.

For those of us that collect Minnesota covers or are just a fan of our state I have a book to recommend. It is titled "Wandermore in Minnesota" by Seth Varner. I saw his story covered on the local news. Mr. Varner is a young man that traveled to 856 towns and cities in Minnesota in one year. He did posts on his Facebook page and when he was done turned it all into a book. He has done this for other midwestern states as well. His Minnesota book has done so well, the first printing sold out very quickly. One of the surprises with the book was that he took over 10,000 photos along his journey and could not get many incorporated into the book. He did, however, create files that you can access by scanning the QR code for each city listed at the back of the book and see his many photographs there. His story for each place has a brief history along with favorite places to go. This book is not at our library, but I have Mr. Varner's information for anyone that wants to order it.
To sign up for the Toozeday Nooze go to our website at NORPS.org, there you will find a link for the Toozeday Nooze and on the event page where you can sign up to receive the Nooze every week and keep up on events and programs at the library as well as happenings with the local stamp clubs and shows. I have been told this does not work with some phones but should be accessible from your computer. You do not need to be a member of the library to receive this, but I encourage you to do so. We are run and organized 100% by volunteers and your donations keep the doors open and the lights on.
