Toozeday Nooze

Toozeday Nooze
EDITION 609 - 02/24/2026

We will not have a program this Saturday at the library. We are looking for people to host a program on the fourth Saturday of each month. Please share your knowledge and show your collection.
I am asked on almost a weekly basis on the best way for someone to sell their collection. This is frequently from people that are not actively collecting, but often it is from collectors. We have a great resource here at the library every third Saturday. We have a bourse where anyone can come and buy or sell stamps and covers, and the best part is that it is completely free. Some people just come for coffee and donuts and to visit. Last Saturday we had seven people that brought items to sell. I know at least one person brought in a stamp that they needed help to identify. There is almost always at least one dealer as part of the group and lots of knowledge in the room. While you are at the library you can also look through the large selection of stamps in the red boxes and research whatever area you are collecting. We are after all a library. I got there early and spent an hour researching a French cover that I will feature in the Nooze soon. I found several books to help me. All of which are out of print and without our library I would still be searching for information. Please join us for the next bourse.
My cover this week is postmarked in Johnstown, Wisconsin which was in Rock County and had an operating post office from 1839 to 1902. It was sent to the town of Yankee Jim's, California which was in Placer County and had non continuous service from 1852 to 1940. The two-page double sided letter was between brothers and was written on April 18, 1858, and describes farm life in Wisconsin. Whenever I find a ten cent Nesbitt postal stationary cover it is either to or from California.
To sign up for the Toozeday Nooze go to our website at NORPS.org, there you will find a link for the Toozeday Nooze and on the event page where you can sign up to receive the Nooze every week and keep up on events and programs at the library as well as happenings with the local stamp clubs and shows. I have been told this does not work with some phones but should be accessible from your computer. You do not need to be a member of the library to receive this, but I encourage you to do so. We are run and organized 100% by volunteers and your donations keep the doors open and the lights on.
If you have anything that you want shared let me know at pjflaherty58@gmail.com
