Toozeday Nooze

Toozeday Nooze
EDITION 613 - 03/24/2026

We do not have a program for this Friday at the library.
Golden Valley will be resuming their internet auctions in April. I will update next week after I confirm the date.
This week's cover is a scarce cover from the very short-lived post office of Foreman's Ranch, California. It was mailed on March 21, 1860, and it took nearly three weeks to cross the continent to New York City. From there it went to Masevaux, France where it finally arrived on May 2, 1860. The journey took 42 days. Foreman's ranch is one of those towns that popped up during the Gold Rush in San Joaquin County. It was primarily a combination Trading Post/Saloon/Hotel. The post office was open from 1855 to 1863. The name was changed to Fourth Crossing sometime before 1863 and somewhere along the way the county lines changed to Calaveras County. That post office stayed in operation until 1888. A post office reopened in 1892 but with the gold rush down the town was not much more than a stagecoach stop. The post office closed again in 1925. There are a few buildings left and a historical marker. Fourth Crossing is now listed as an unincorporated village.
To sign up for the Toozeday Nooze go to our website at NORPS.org, there you will find a link for the Toozeday Nooze and on the event page where you can sign up to receive the Nooze every week and keep up on events and programs at the library as well as happenings with the local stamp clubs and shows. I have been told this does not work with some phones but should be accessible from your computer. You do not need to be a member of the library to receive this, but I encourage you to do so. We are run and organized 100% by volunteers and your donations keep the doors open and the lights on.

If you have anything that you want shared let me know at pjflaherty58@gmail.com
