My item this week is not a cover. It is a 100-year-old tobacco pouch with a revenue stamp on the back. I know a lot of us have many collections other than stamps. My wife says it's in our Genes and that I collect too many things. Of all the things I collect I have a small collection of tobacco memorabilia. A friend recently found this for me. Some may view it as a strange collection, and it has been over 40 years since I smoked. I have a friend that has collected cigarette advertising for at least 40 years. It is fun to view how our attitudes toward smoking have changed throughout the years. My friend that collects this has never been a smoker. He tells me he started when he saw a magazine ad that read, "More Doctors Smoke Chesterfield Cigarettes Than Any Other Brand". He has on display many ads that advertise smoking as beneficial and even medicinal. I remember one ad for a cigarette to help people with Asthma. I have seen many different things that people collect, and I always like to hear their stories. |

To sign up for the Toozeday Nooze go to our website at NORPS.org, there you will find a link for the Toozeday Nooze and on the event page where you can sign up to receive the Nooze every week and keep up on events and programs at the library as well as happenings with the local stamp clubs and shows. I have been told this does not work with some phones but should be accessible from your computer. You do not need to be a member of the library to receive this, but I encourage you to do so. We are run and organized 100% by volunteers and your donations keep the doors open and the lights on. |
