Correction to this week's Nooze. It has been brought to my attention that my information that I got from Wikipedia on President Buchanan's position on slavery is wrong. It turns out anyone can put what they want on Wikipedia and the President was very ineffective in a role against slavery. He believed that individual states should make decisions on slavery and did not take a federal position on the issue. What I have read since I posted this week's Nooze is that he had a great opportunity to do something, and pretty much avoided the issue, which in turn escalated the problem. He even supported some states right to allow slavery. My cover for next week also has a civil war connection and I will need to research that a little better prior to posting |
