This week's cover is a Minnesota Territorial cover from Anoka, Minnesota. The post office in Anoka opened on April 18, 1854.It has been in continuous operation since that date. It is the County Seat for Anoka County. I got this cover this weekend in a trade at Minnesota Stamp EXPO. The two books that I use the most for researching Minnesota Postal History are The Post Offices of Minnesota by Alan H. Patera and John S. Gallagher and The Minnesota Territory in Postmarks, Letters and History by Floyd E. Risvold. Both of these are available at our library and other than the Scott Specialized Catalogue they are the most referenced books in my home library. They are both out of print just like the majority of books at our library. If you have not visited, I recommend you do so. |

I think the show went very well. For me the best part of the show was seeing old friends that I have not seen for a while and having time to catch up with them. I also learn a lot every time EXPO comes around. There were many fascinating exhibits. My favorites were, "The County Cork" and" The Bloods Local Posts" exhibits. I think half of the dealers were from out of town which enables us to see fresh product. There were also a bunch of APS officers that attended the show, and I got a chance to talk to many of them. Like I said, I learned a lot. |

To sign up for the Toozday Nooze go to our website at NORPS.org, there you will find a link for the Toozday Nooze and on the event page where you can sign up to receive the Nooze every week and keep up on events and programs at the library as well as happenings with the local stamp clubs and shows. I have been told this does not work with some phones but should be accessible from your computer. You do not need to be a member of the library to receive this, but I encourage you to do so. We are run and organized 100% by volunteers and your donations keep the doors open and the lights on. |
