| Both the German Philatelic Society and the Scandinavian Collectors Club have chosen to not have meetings this month. They will have a joint meeting in September at the Danish Center. More details on that to come next month. |
| My cover this month is a postcard that I picked up last month at EXPO for a dollar. I did not have much time to shop and did not really get around to looking at what I got until last Wednesday at the library. (I just started unpacking from EXPO and if you are waiting for a reply from me on something I will get around to it.) Jerry and I are at the library on Wednesdays, and we both had a few items that we picked up to show each other. Jerry knows a lot more about postcards than I do and we notice different things about the same item. For me it is a large part of the fun socializing at the library. I picked this postcard up as I thought the stamp was unusual on a postcard. Jerry took one look and went straight to the cancellation which was for the 1924 Paris Olympics. I do not collect many foreign covers. If this had been a U.S. cover, I likely would have noticed the cancellation before I noticed the stamp. |

| All of our volunteers at the library have different collecting interests and different levels of expertise. I stopped in on Monday last week and got help on a German cover from Rudi and Mark was investigating paper types and tagging on some PNC covers for someone. I think we should put a list of our members areas of study and what days they are in. You can learn something different any day of the week from our experts, Monday through Saturday 10:00 AM to noon. |
| To sign up for the Toozday Nooze go to our website at NORPS.org, there you will find a link for the Toozday Nooze and on the event page where you can sign up to receive the Nooze every week and keep up on events and programs at the library as well as happenings with the local stamp clubs and shows. I have been told this does not work with some phones but should be accessible from your computer. You do not need to be a member of the library to receive this, but I encourage you to do so. We are run and organized 100% by volunteers and your donations keep the doors open and the lights on. |
| I have started a YouTube site for collecting postal history. I hope to do one for the library soon when I get a bit more polished. This is 20 minutes long and it is my personal journey as to why I collect postal history and how I got started. I plan to do this a couple times a month and get much more in detail on specific topics. I hope to get some of you in front of the camera as well. I welcome feedback and yes, I do know there is a lot of room for improvement. I mainly wanted to learn the software and learn how to add images, titles, music and all the stuff that goes into one of these on my first video. So go ahead and like it, share it, comment on it and if anyone objects to my providing a link here, I will remove it from the Nooze and will only show library related videos in the future. I have spent a lifetime on the other end of the camera as a hobby, and I am not comfortable on this side of the lens. (You may notice part of my camera collection in the background. My stamp room is way too messy to film there). I do not profit from this. In fact, it costs me money to produce. I figured anything that promotes stamp collecting and philately is fair game. I did tell some of our board members about it and there were no objections. |
