I went to the Second Sunday show last week and I found out that the GPS has found a new place to meet. It will continue to be the second Saturday of each month at 2:00 in the afternoon. As soon as I receive the details on where it will be it will be posted in the calendar of events. |

My cover this week is an unposted Thanksgiving postcard of a turkey with real turkey feathers on it. A little more than a year ago I was searching for Santa postcards, and I came across a group of very colorful embossed cards of turkeys for Thanksgiving. I found them kind of fun and they were inexpensive. I was one of those people that looked at the other side of the postcards for the cancellations. I remember years ago going through boxes of common covers looking for cancellations in the basement of Bel-Aire. I knew Tami collected Santa postcards and when I found them, I would bring them upstairs for her. This was back when Tom Eckers was running the show downstairs. After Bel Aire closed I continued to collect Santa postcards, and I display them around the house as part of our Christmas decorations, and my younger grandchildren love them. Even my kids showed a mild interest. I thought the turkeys may get the same reception. They did not. My kids and grandkids have no interest in my covers or stamps. My younger grandchildren were interested in the Santa postcards as they still believe in Santa. That was the full extent of their interest. My adult children were only interested because they are all over 100 years old. I showed some of the turkey postcards at a stamp club back when I started collecting them and friends started picking them up for me. Over half of my turkey postcards came from friends and they are always inexpensive. They are usually a dollar or less. I believe this one was two or three dollars and one that my friend Jerry found. One of my great joys in this hobby is when friends show interest in what I collect and I in turn am fascinated by what some of my friends collect and the collections they have put together. The library is a great place to share all of this and visit. I often say we are more of a social club for stamp collectors than a library. We can be both. I see people researching stamps almost every Wednesday and I certainly hear stories. |

To sign up for the Toozday Nooze go to our website at NORPS.org, there you will find a link for the Toozday Nooze and on the event page where you can sign up to receive the Nooze every week and keep up on events and programs at the library as well as happenings with the local stamp clubs and shows. I have been told this does not work with some phones but should be accessible from your computer. You do not need to be a member of the library to receive this, but I encourage you to do so. We are run and organized 100% by volunteers and your donations keep the doors open and the lights on. |
