EDITION 645 - 10/20/2026

METROPEX will be on the 23rd and 24th , this Friday and Saturday. I have been told that they will have the largest amount of dealers than they have had in many years.
Golden Valley has changed the closing date and time of this month's auction to Saturday the 24th at 1:00 PM.
My cover this week was sent from the U.S. to the German Colony of Kamerun on February 1, 1902. which is known today as Cameroun or Cameroon. The letter was sent to an American Missionary. When I found this cover I was curious to find out how many people were in the area at the time to help me determine how scarce this cover may be. I did not have much luck, and this is AI's explanation as to why I could not find any census data.
"There is no verified modern statistical record of Cameroon's exact population in 1901, but historical sources indicate it was a small, sparsely populated territory under German colonial administration.
Why no exact figure exists
Cameroon in 1901 was not yet the modern sovereign state; it was Kamerun, a German colony in Central Africa. At that time, there was no systematic national census, and population estimates were based on limited colonial surveys, missionary reports, and administrative records."
I was able to find out that the first post office here opened on February 1, 1887. German stamps were used and canceled Kamerun, this was redesignated Duala on June 1, 1901 and closed on September 27, 1914. This does have a Duala backstamp. Kamerun was occupied by both France and Great Britain during World War One. I don't collect stamps from this area or know much about their history, but I bet some of you do.

To sign up for the Toozeday Nooze go to our website at NORPS.org, there you will find a link for the Toozeday Nooze and on the event page where you can sign up to receive the Nooze every week and keep up on events and programs at the library as well as happenings with the local stamp clubs and shows.
