Toozeday Nooze
EDITION 524 - 07/09/2024

This Saturday is a workday at the library.
The Annual General Meeting for the library will be held at Minnesota Stamp EXPO on Saturday the 20th at 11:00 AM
The program for this month will follow the board meeting at 11:45
I did not hear from many of the clubs concerning their schedule this month. In the past many have chosen to have their meeting at EXPO or to not have a meeting in July. I have made assumptions. If these are not correct, please check with your club.
What I know for certain is the GPS club will meet at EXPO. The Second Sunday show is not happening this month.
A couple people told me to make sure to list that the Postcard Club is having a show this month. They were to get details to me, but I still have not received a notice.
My cover this week was sent from Mr. Lucius Fairchild to his wife sometime during the 1860's. Mr. Fairchild enlisted into the union army during the Civil War as a Private. During the war he rose to the rank of Colonel. He lost his arm in battle at Gettysburg. After losing his arm President Lincoln commissioned him as a Brigadier General, but the appointment was not confirmed by the Senate. After the war he had a long political career. He was the 10th governor for the State of Wisconsin serving three terms. He was once considered for a vice-presidential candidate but dropped from consideration after he lost his senatorial campaign. He had served as the 8th Secretary of State for Wisconsin prior to becoming Governor. He ended his political career as the 23rd United States Minister to Spain. He held many other political appointments in his lifetime. This cover was sent to his wife in the care of L.J. Blair. Her maiden name was Blair, and she was from Milwaukee. I assume this was a relative of hers, but it was neither of her parents or her brother. Those were the only relatives of hers that I could find information on. The stamp is #65 and it was cancelled February 17th. I am not sure of the year. Mr. Fairchild died at the age of 64 in 1896.
