Toozeday Nooze

Toozeday Nooze
EDITION 534 - 09/17/2024

This Saturday is the monthly bourse at the library.
The Maplewood Stamp Club is meeting on the 19th of this month instead of the previously reported 26th.
The Second Sunday Stamp Show is actually on the third Saturday this month, (21st). This will be the same day as the library bourse and be sure to check back for any changes or updates.
We have what should be a fascinating program this month on the Japanese Internment Camps of World War Two. This will be presented by Bob Akaki. I have had the pleasure of meeting Bob a couple times when he has been up in Minnesota for the Minnesota Stamp EXPO. He lives in Nebraska and is graciously coming to give his presentation on the internment camps. Bob not only has a vast collection of the material to show us, but he has also written many articles on the subject. He has done a lot of research on the subject and has family history tied to the internment camps. This is not a presentation to miss.
Bob sent an email to Tim about his upcoming presentation. Here is part of that email. "Looking forward to my Sept 28 date with you all. I call my program "Amache Mail". It is postal history with a little social history and family history. I use the postal history to document what life was like in a Japanese-American internment camp. I have given it to stamp collectors in Denver, Chicago and Lincoln, NE and to non-collectors in Granada, CO where Amache was located. This last was for a community open house hosted by the Denver U Archaeology Dept for their annual community open house to showcase their work at the site. It was attended by survivors, descendants, local people and other interested people. I have family and friends still in the Twin Cities (I grew up in Roseville and graduated from the U)."
My wife just got back from a ten-day cooking trip to Italy. Being a meat and potatoes kind of guy the food did not appeal to me. The wine with every meal, plus breaks for wine sounded interesting, but it was a girlfriend's trip. In honor of her trip where I primarily ate pizza while she was gone, I decided to include an Italian cover for this week's cover. I do not have a lot of foreign covers and only pick up ones that are cheap and somehow catch my eye. This one has the E15 Special Delivery stamp. It is the last Italian special delivery stamp other than the two that were regular stamps with overprints. It is also the highest value at 2.50 lire. It's a little tattered, but colorful with lots of postal markings front and back, and it was found in a dollar box several years ago.
