| The remodel at the library is complete. We are having an open house on Saturday the 26th from noon until 6:00 PM. Everyone is welcome. |
| Metropex is the third weekend of the month on the 18th & 19th. Please note that this is a Friday and Saturday show. This is always a fun show and the only two day show in the region. |
| There will not be a Second Sunday show in October. They will be back in November. |
| On Saturday we had a program by Mr. Bob Akaki on the Amache Japanese Internment Camp. I have to say it was one of the very best presentations I have seen. Bob has family members that were interned there during the war, and he had lots of fascinating material to show us. We had a packed house. We even had non philatelists come as they were interested in the subject. A family of a cub scout who recently got his stamp collecting merit badge was part of the group. A couple of our members significant others were in attendance. We even had a mystery club member come, and he brought delicious brownies for us all. He left before I got to meet him. We will call him Chris, the Mystery Member. Some of us went to lunch after and I already feel like Bob and Deb are old friends that I have not seen in years, yet they are new friends. That may be what we do best at the library, socialize with friends old and new. |
| I asked Bob to send me a scan of a cover from the presentation to show with the Nooze. He sent me four and I picked two of them. The first is from an assembly center that the detainees were sent to prior to the camps. There were 16 assembly centers, and they operated for a very brief time between April and October of 1942. The second scan received special delivery service. This was quite rare at a camp. The third picture is of Bob and our president Tim. |
