| Both the German Philatelic Society and the Scandinavian Collectors Club have chosen to not have meetings this month. They will have a joint meeting in September at the Danish Center. More details to come on that next month. |
| My cover this month is a cover canceled on October 11, 1860 in St. Paul, M.T. This was over two years after statehood. I have been told that smaller towns often used the territorial postmark into statehood until they received a new canceling device. St. Paul was likely the largest post office in Minnesota in 1860. The back of the cover has a cachet for the International Hotel which was downtown St. Paul. Why this received an M.T. cancel is a mystery to me. Maybe one of you has the answer. |

| Our library has several great books for researching Minnesota Postal History along with all other states. Please visit the library for your research and ask any of our volunteers for assistance, or you can come to have a cup of coffee and visit with other collectors. Don't forget we have red boxes filled with identified and cataloged stamps to fill the holes in your collection. Many of these are common varieties that dealers don't bother with. |
| To sign up for the Toozday Nooze go to our website at NORPS.org, there you will find a link for the Toozday Nooze and on the event page where you can sign up to receive the Nooze every week and keep up on events and programs at the library as well as happenings with the local stamp clubs and shows. I have been told this does not work with some phones but should be accessible from your computer. You do not need to be a member of the library to receive this, but I encourage you to do so. We are run and organized 100% by volunteers and your donations keep the doors open and the lights on. |
| I have started a YouTube site for collecting postal history. I hope to do one for the library soon when I get a bit more polished. This is 20 minutes long and it is my personal journey as to why I collect postal history and how I got started. I plan to do this a couple times a month and get much more in detail on specific topics. I hope to get some of you in front of the camera as well. I welcome feedback and yes I do know there is a lot of room for improvement. I mainly wanted to learn the software and learn how to add images, titles, music and all the stuff that goes into one of these on my first video. So go ahead and like it, share it, comment on it and if anyone objects to my providing a link here I will remove it from the Nooze and will only show library related videos in the future. I have spent a lifetime on the other end of the camera as a hobby, and I am not comfortable on this side of the lens. (You may notice part of my camera collection in the background. My stamp room is way too messy to film there). I do not profit from this. In fact, it costs me money to produce. I figured anything that promotes stamp collecting and philately is fair game. I did tell some of our board members about it and there were no objections. |
