| This Saturday is supposed to be the monthly bourse at the library. This Friday and Saturday will also be METROPEX. I could not get anyone to confirm that the bourse will not happen, and I have been traveling with limited internet/phone access, and I did not have time to track people down, so I am posting the schedule as I know it. I do know that in the past the bourse still happened during METROPEX, and I know of people attending both on the same weekend. |
| The METROPEX Stamp show is on October 17th and 18th. This is the second largest show in Minnesota. |
| I have been asked several times to post more foreign covers. I will do so for a few weeks, but I primarily collect U.S., which will limit what I have to show. |
| My cover last week received a few comments, but no one came forward to positively identify it. I was advised to send it for certification. I may do so if I choose to sell it. Until then I'll save it in my collection and avoid the certification fees. |
| I have two covers this week. They are both from the same city, however the name officially changed on March 28, 1930, to Istanbul. It had been commonly called Istanbul since 1453 but officially went by Constantinople prior to 1930. The cover from Constantinople was sent from Chester, New Hampshire on July 8, 1887. It arrived in Constantinople on July 25th with five cents due. The later cover was sent from Istanbul in 1952 from the U.S. Embassy. Curiously the postmark is from Washington D.C. on November 25, 1952. It does have an auxiliary marking stating "This article originally mailed in country indicated by postage". |
| Istanbul is one of the largest cities by population in the World. It is also the only major city on two continents, Europe and Asia. |

| To sign up for the Toozeday Nooze go to our website at NORPS.org, there you will find a link for the Toozeday Nooze and on the event page where you can sign up to receive the Nooze every week and keep up on events and programs at the library as well as happenings with the local stamp clubs and shows. I have been told this does not work with some phones but should be accessible from your computer. You do not need to be a member of the library to receive this, but I encourage you to do so. We are run and organized 100% by volunteers and your donations keep the doors open and the lights on. |
